Isfahan (Persian: اصفهان ) is a city located about 340 km south of Tihrán and is the third largest city in Irán. The city was the capital of Irán during the Safavid Era 1501/1502 to 1722. The city is significant to Bahá'ís. The Báb [1]stayed there for a period of time, and Abdu'l-Bahá's wife Munírih Khánum was born there. Núrayn-i-Nayyirayn (King and Beloved of Martyrs) came from Isfahan. Its beautiful architecture earned it the nickname “Nisf-i-Jahán” or “half of the world”.
