The history of the Bahá'í Faith in Malaysia starts during a declared state of emergency in September 1952 when Shirin Fozdar toured the country to give talks about the Faith. These talks received wide publicity in the local media. Shirin Fozdar would travel again to Malaya in December 1953, a tour arranged with the help of Yankee Leong, who would become the first soul to accept the faith in Malaya on December 19, 1953.

The first Local Spiritual Assembly was formed in Kuching in 1953, followed by Seremban in 1954, and Malacca and Kuala Lumpur in 1955. Malaysia would be given its own National Spiritual Assembly in 1964. Until this time the Faith was under the guidance of the NSA of the Baha'is of India, Pakistan and Burma, owing to the fact that the Guardian had entrusted the growth and development of the Faith to that assembly in 1950.
