New York City is home to a Bahá’í community of over 1,500 people[1]. The Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of the City of New York was incorporated in the spring of 1932. The by-laws developed and used by that Assembly were promoted by Shoghi Effendi as the basis of legal incorporation for Bahá’í communities throughout the world.

New York City was honored by ‘Abdu’l-Bahá with the title "City of the Covenant" on June 19, 1912, during His stay in that city[2]. ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s stay in New York City was the longest in any one place during His visit to America: of the 239 days He spent in America, He spent 85 of those days in New York City.
