Dr. Peter Jamel Khan (b. November 12, 1936) is currently serving as a member of the Universal House of Justice, the supreme governing body of the Bahá’í Faith. On January 6th, 2010 it was announced that he would retire following a by-election to replace him. He will retire along with Mr. Hooper Dunbar[1].

Dr. Khan was born in New South Wales, Australia. From 1963 to 1967 he was a Fulbright postdoctoral fellow and later professor of electrical engineering at the University of Michigan in the United States. When he returned to Australia he was visiting professor at the University of New South Wales (1975) and associate professor at the University of Queensland (1976-83).

Dr. Khan served first as a member of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Australia from 1958 to 1963. Subsequently he was appointed as an Auxiliary Board for the Propagation of the Faith in the United States from 1967 to 1976, as a Continental Board of Counsellors for the Protection and Propagation of the Faith in Australasia from 1976 to 1983, and then to the International Teaching Centre from 1983 to 1987. He was elected to the Universal House of Justice in 1987.

Dr. Khan received his BSc in 1956, his BE in 1959, and his doctorate in electrical engineering in 1963 from the University of Sydney.
