Hello, and welcome to my user page. My name is David Haslip and I maintain Bahaikipedia and its sister projects that include a news site, a media repository, and a site for full text of books and letters from the Bahá'í Faith. I started these projects because I believe that collaboration is a great way to create a successful and useful repository of information, media, and writings from the Faith. Collaboration is especially useful when looking at languages other then English where the very basic information found in this encyclopedia may not be available online.
While much of our work here overlaps or duplicates work that others are doing I feel each project has unique advantages. For example much of the information here is also available on Wikipedia, however we can portray the Bahá'í point of view and do not need to worry about notability guidelines when referencing people, places or events related to the Faith. There are several sites and blogs following news about the Bahá'í Faith, but we can follow all the news from all the sources, while allowing for contributions from anyone with an internet connection. There are even more numerous sources for the full text of books and letters and Writings from the Faith. However there is no cross-linking in those projects between related text or terms. For example terms used in the Writings can easily link to the related Bahaikipedia article. Also, Letters referenced in compilations like Lights of Guidance can be tied together. Equally important are that no existing sites include links to available translations to the various texts.
